Default airport conceal carry

is the airport off limits for conceal carry or just the secure area, or is there a city ordnance making the whole airport off limits to conceal carry

+1 On phillyd2's answer. After the metal detectors you've violated federal law. "City Ordinances" are BS - they are illegal (in violation of the UFA).

Initial question did not state which airport (I think there's more than one in Pennsylvania). Allegheny County, when they created the Pittsburgh Airport Authority, included a "no guns" section in their ordinance. Both the PIA and Allegheny County Police websites state you might be arrested and guns are prohibited on airport property (not just the secured areas). See the discussion on Open Carry dot Org here.

Haven't heard of anyone being busted for carrying, but Allegheny County, the airport operating authority, and the county police have all be notified that any such ordinance is illegal by state law.

Up to the meatl detectors is fine. I've carried in WB/SCR when my wife went out to Calif and Philly when my son flew out to New Mexico.

First of course IAMNAL! I totally agree with what several have already stated --- carry is legal EXCEPT for the secure area which is a "federal zone". Just stay away from the metal detectors and you're good to go. I ALWAYS carry to the Philadelphia airport to pick-up and drop off. I do go inside occasionally to pick-up.

As for the any local "laws" or regulations -- they are not just useless and have zero force of law, they are out right illegal in the state of PA.

Be Safe and Carry Always

Ya just stay out of the tsa's way and you'll be fine. Keep your distance from the medal detectors as well.

From the "horse's mouth"--Sept. 19, 2008. I was at the airport today, and spoke with a Philadelphia PO. I asked if CC was leagal with a LTCF in the airport. Response was, up to the check point, you are fine.

As stated previously, carry and be safe!

WOW! From a Philly police officer. It's a wonder he didn't arrest you just for asking

So very true! I did fib to him and told him that I "left it at home...better safe than sorry."

It was actually locked in my car. As soon as I knew I was cool, I went and got it. Better with me than in the car for SO MANY reasons!
