I look at my bug as part of a package; XD is strong side 3 o'clock in the retention holster (Blackhawk CQC Serpa); opposite side at 10 to 11 o'clock are the two spare mags; PD ammo in one, and FMJs in the other; if the gun jams, tap, rack, and (hopefully) POW!, if not drop, rack rack load second mag, rack, POW; if not, we head to the FMJs which will almost always fire; in the meantime, while I'm slapping and racking, I'm trying to find cover. If I haven't been riddled with bullets by the end of the third mag, then I'll reach for my ankle holster, which is located on the way to kissing my ass goodbye.
That, and the ankle holster is easier to grab while seated in the car.

Since both our company and the jobsite have a no guns policy, I feel I have to comply, however, if I were the type of person that felt completely responsible for his own safety, I would probably have something like this.
![]() IF you would be so inclined to practice just a bit, you might be ever so slightly surprised at how quickly you can present from an ankle rig. I might highlight the IF. It will not be as quick as your primary gun presentation BUT if deeper concealment is a must and you are bending, lifting, climbing, flopping around on the ground or doing anything that might expose your primary, I would suggest a similar carry. The strap snap is released when you attain a master grip by forcing your thumb through the snap. Even if the strap releases completely(both snap and velcro), the pistol can be fired. When you are driving, this might be easier access than a 4 o'clock belt presentation. Edit to add that I have worn this rig for over 16 hours on some days with no discomfort. It's on now but so is the Glock23. My thoughts.

I thought about this for a while and actually priced out a couple SOB holsters.
This was perhaps 4 years or so ago. I ended up not getting it. The following winter, I was snowblowing my downhill driveway when both my legs slid out from under me and I landed on my backside, breaking my tailbone. I'm not sure how that would have played out had i been wearing a SOB holster but the incident verified to me that I personally will never carry in that manner. Some of my friends do carry like that, swear by it and will never carry otherwise so to each his own ( primary carry in one case). I hurt or was uncomfortable for many months after that. Just my .02 for whatever it's worth or not worth dependent on your point of view. 27

I carry a Ruger LCP in a Recluse Pocket holster. The holster holds the pistol with the Crimson Trase laser and two loaded magazines with Pearce grip extensions. I usually carry in the back pocket on my strong side with my wallet on the weak side - they sort of balance each other out. (My wallet would make George Costanza proud.) When it is too warm for jeans, I wear it in a cargo pocket (pants or shorts) strong side.

Bond Arms, weak side cross draw w/ 2-410 shells loaded w/ 5 9MM sized balls each. If I work my way through the all the 45's from the strong side, I'm hoping the wide dispersal at close range of the buckshot just might save my butt.
I OC strong side and CC BUG.

I carry ankle because I do believe that it is a easier place to conceal. Also most physical fights end up on the ground and it is easier to get to an ankle while on the ground or behind cover if you get there
