When I got mine in the summer of 2008 I down loaded the forms from there web site, filled them out and dropped them off at the court house, two weeks later got a card in the mail to come in and get pic.taken and done. Was not too bad, but saving that second trip in to the court house would have been nice. Glad to hear Lancaster County has gotten with program.

Does anyone have an electronic copy of the Chester County application handy? I found the url, however the Chester county website has not been working for me for several days. I am currently stationed overseas and would like to head into the sheriff's office the day I get home.
Thanks for any help. Edit: found the application from westmoreland's website. Looks like it is generic for the state, nice. http://www.co.westmoreland.pa.us/wes...pplication.pdf Also, how does the process for referrals work with the instant check?

I am in Allegheny county, and they took the full amount of time before they mailed the card to me... I think I received it a day before the deadline for approval/denial. My gf, on the other hand, got hers instantly at the local sheriff's office in Fulton County.... walked in, asked for the form, filled it out right there, Sheriff called it in (took like 3 minutes), took the picture, out the door with LTCF in wallet. In and out in 15 minutes.

Just got my LCTF last Tuesday in Bucks county. Ran up to the county courthouse in Doylestown, hopped an elevator down to the sheriff's office, and was in and out of the place in 20 minutes. Would have been 10, but the woman helping me was finishing her lunch.
I have a friend that does background checks for a living. As per his experience, the only reason it takes any extended time to review someone is if someone in the state with the same name has a less-than-ideal background. If they've got the same birthdate, forget it. You're waiting 30+ days. If you're name is Jon Smith, try to apply a couple months early. To be honest, I was kind of put back at how quickly and effortlessly all this went down. Even more so when I went to pick up my Sig at Surplus City and walked in an out in 5. Not that I'm saying it's really a bad thing. If my cell phone can download movies from youtube at 7mbps, it only makes sense that a background check is damn near instantaneous. I was just expecting this to be a little more inconvenient. Total, it took about 90 minutes including an hour round trip to Dtown to pick up a carry permit, a pistol, and a cheesesteak (looking back, awesome day). |

I arrived in Potter County PA on Apr 4th. By 5/13 I had my license. Walked in, gave them my info, they began checking while I filled out the form. License was ready when I finished. They handed me a temporary paper copy and I walked out the door. Whole thing took 10 minutes. They mailed me my plastic license a week later.
I was amazed with the simplicity and speed of it all. Couldn't ask for more. |
