I appreciate all the responses...here's an update:

The Abington PD found out where my house was from a neighbor across the street, two houses up...kinda diagonal from me. When the 4 PD cruisers swarmed into the area, that particular neighbor ( senior citizen, always home ) was outside and was asked if she had seen "anyone with grey hair walking a yellow lab"...and she pointed out my house...as she had seen me and the dog numerous times before. I know this because she stopped me today to find out what was going on...and this was the very first time we had ever spoken to each other. She obviously did what she thought was the right thing in response to the police questioning her…and she was not told why they were looking for me.

I do not believe they should do this, but cops are their for the protection and service of citizens. Maybe they were responding to a MWAG around your house. Maybe you took a little detour and went in a back or side door instead of the front/ maybe the caller didn't see you enter the door at all. They got a call for a MWAG and showed at your house to make sure your wife and kids were not in any danger. As soon as they verified this, the officer obviously knew the law or had the training, and just wanted to speak to you about it after to explain what happened... he obviously didn't care if you had a LTCF or not as he didn't even look at it.

Curious, could you file a freedom of information act, to get a copy of all the complaints / reports then you'd know exactly who made the MWG call.

That way your lab won't need to carry that 1919a4 mounted to his back through the entire neighborhood, just their block.
