    Default Out of state CCW

Hello, I'm a newbie that just registered. I have a couple of question on out of state CCWs. I have a NY unrestricted CCW and I live right on the PA border. Is my understanding correct that Montrose is the Susquehanna county seat? This is where I would go to apply for an out of state CCW? Does anyone know how much an out of state CCW permit costs and how easy is it for me to get one? Thanks

Best sheriff for out of state licenses is Denny Nau:

Out of staters dont have to apply to the nearest PA county Sheriff.. They can apply to any.. However, only a few will issue to nonresident, and of those few only a so many will do it strictly by mail.

Centre County Sheriff, Denny Nau is THE man for nonresident issue.

Not only best, as mentioned above, but isn’t Centre County the only county in Pennsylvania that offers the non-resident license to carry? I also believe it is able to be done completely through the mail, so no driving is necessary.

Don't know if it's the only... probably not. Any sheriff is supposed to do this, but many do not. But Sheriff Nau does do it all thru the mail and is fast and easy from what we've heard here.

NO, see this list http://www.pafoa.org/counties under the heading "NR Permits" for non-resident issue counties, although as mentioned it seems Centre to be the most pain free county among them.

Oh, yeah, forgot about that list there, thanks sober!

But my question to davei is, how in the world did he get an unrestricted NY permit

Is it also good in NYC since it is unrestricted?

Wow! Thanks. Centre is the only one I ever see mentioned, so I thought it was the only one that actually offered them. Thanks for the clarification!

Thanks everyone for responding very fast to my questions. In answer to your question on how did I get an unrestricted NY CCW, it was way back in time, 1975 and Tioga County NY was in an election year. It took 6 months before it was issued, but the sheriff thought he could get re-elected I guess if he issued them. At to is it valid in NYC? NO it is not. NYC issues their own licenses and only to their friends I think.
I will be contacting the sheriff mentioned in several posts, thanks again.
This looks like one of the best forums I've seen so far.

No county issued "state license" is good in NYC, only NYC issued licenses. There are counties in NYS state that are virtually "shall issue" on unrestricted licenses. They are mostly rural upstate counties.
