Is this gun too big for CC? As I understand it, it is a slightly shorter version of the P226 (slide/barrel shorter by .6" & mag mag. cap. down to 13 from 15).

My son carries a Sig 226 in 9mm 24*7*365 and he does no complain -- to much. He has no choice in the matter and I think that he would probably carry his Glock because that is what he first learn with and it is lighter.
My son is 6" and very slender and no trouble properly concealing the p226 and 1 spare mag. IMO the key is always a good belt and a good holster. The Sigs all have a great reputation so I am sure that you would be happy with the 229. Good luck.

its all a matter of how you carry, and what kind of holster you use. you will more then likely end up with a drawer full of holsters before you finally figure out what is best for you on a a pistol like this. i know ive got a good 5 or 6 laying around for my 226.

Since the OP asked about 229 carry I will attempt to answer your question, I have a P-229 in 40 cal, and a P-228 alum in 9mm they are lite enough to carry but a little bulkier then what I prefer ( Walther PP in 380 cal) I have carried my 229 with little concern about printing or the weight. after carrying the 229 you will not want to carry a colt 45. I would try carrying it for a while and if you find it uncomfortable, get a 9mm makarov or 380 gun
I love my sig's sprat

Carrying the Sig P-229 40/357 for me is not a problem whatsoever. With
over 45 years of carrying in the Military, as an LEO, and as a Citizen, the one thing that is paramount, is the "Leather" that the weapon system fits onto. A Quality belt, holster, helps distribute the weight more evenly, not making a weapon a burden to carry for long periods of time, I have Galco, Mitch Rosen, Bianchi, Kramer & DeSantis. They all are comfortable, rugged, and efficient for various pistols/revolvers that I carry. No matter what pistol/revolver you decide to purchase and carry, check the availability of the holsters for that model of pistol/revolver. It is just as important as the weapons purchase. Only other option, is to have Custom Holster/Belt made for you. Remember, take care of the leather, nylon, or polymer system you choose.

The 228/229 are roughly the same ballpark as the Glock 19 in size. In other words they are what most companies call "compact", and I call "medium" sized. I guess it all depends on what you are used to carrying and how you are built. And how "concealed" you want to be. And how you dress.
I would say if you are more concerned about concealment, go with a good IWB and belt, and you should be good if you wear looser clothing (jacket, untucked flannel shirt, baggy sweater). If you are concerned about the comfort factor you can do what I do and carry OWB in a high-ride pancake or paddle holster. The casual observer won't notice, but someone paying attention might. If you are super skinny, or you are in the habit of wearing slim fitting clothing, the 229 is probably on the large side and you need to go with something else. |
