Feel free to argue about one in the chamber or not...

But take the personal argument to PM/OFFLINE.

Now.

I can see your face cringe right now as you read this, and I don't like it either. I'm just always worried that I'm going to shoot myself in the balls or foot by accident.

For the past couple of years I've been primarily carrying a Kel-Tec P3AT .380 - small, light, and easy to conceal with an in-pocket uncle mikes. Sometimes I carry a glock 17 with a paddle holster if I'm going somewhere that I think might put me in a situation to really need it. (read: germantown at 3am)

Anyway, either way, I can't bring myself to put one in the chamber, and it's time I got over my fear.

Advice?
For one thing your fear is due to a lack of training and confidence in your weapon !

I've already said that I carry on an empty pipe. In over thirty years , I have needed to draw exactly one time, and the sound of the slide being worked (click-click) absolutely ended that encounter. The only time that I was 'successfully' (from the BGs POV) assaulted, he was on me instantly, and the weapon never even entered into the equation. The door to the sheltered ATM became my weapon, and I snapped his arm in two. He left his knife as he ran away, but I still took 8 stitches to close the defensive wound in my hand.

I have been entertaining the idea of carrying in c1 or c2, but I'm still not real comfortable with that thought; I had empty chamber pounded into my head, and I practice regularly, so a draw to C1 condx is a single fluid motion; the 'extra' time is almost immeasurable, but if you don't have the second hand in motion, you're already screwed.

I was just mulling over a dumb thought, though; how about condition 1 with a rubber or blank round in the chamber? I practice double taps, anyway, so the second round would be live. Naturally, that is when I'd have a jam!

Also, except when I was a gross newbie, I have NEVER had a jam or mischamber on the 1911.

Blanks aren't likely to cycle a stock 1911 action (or most any other handgun I imagine), rubber rounds might also be problematic.

It ended with the recent example of that football player who shot himself... (ahem... yet another gun accident... the usual several mistakes in safety, but nevertheless... the final mistake being one in the pipe... man's career probably over now... ahem)

/aw, never mind

Cheese and rice...

He didn't get shot because there was one in the chamber.
He shot himself cuz he's an asshole.

The end.

No, really... this is where this ends.

ETA: I've never gotten so much rep for closing a thread before. LMFAO!
