Default picked up my LTCF (and love note) yesterday,

Hey all I finnally picked up my LTCF yesterday. I also received a love note from the cumberland county sheriff with all the rules and stuff. It included that my firearm must be concealed at all times (it was bold and underlined). I was kinda expecting this but i was annoyed even still. Police officers carry openly all the time yet they don't get disciplined. The only difference between them and i is a badge and uniform. alot of people on this website im' sure have more training than alot of police officers.

Congratulations.

Maybe you should send them a note thanking them for their "suggestion" but you actually know the laws pertaining to firearms.

When I first got my LTCF I argued with my friends all the time about what you couldn't do. My buddy would pull out his letter from the sheriffs office and take it as the word of god even though it was full of mis-information.

I think i will send him a little note. Now that I have his name and address handy. I don't think i'll put a return address on it in case he is feeling froggy and revokes my permit for writting him a correction letter on open carry. I know it's not really legal but i just got my permit and i'd like to keep it for a while

Has no one enlightened the good sheriff of Cumberland with even a pamphlet, then?

Or has he chosen purposely to ignore the law and spread disinformation?

"Must be concealed at all times."

Why not be really overt in the wording and say something along the lines of:

"Use or display of your firearm automatically rescinds the validity of this LTCF... upon such, please return it immediately, and thanks for the initial fee!"

So who will go speak with the Sheriff concerning these "issues"?

All one needs is an appointment and a plan.

Below are two prior successful plans executed in two other counties to which one can draw up their own plan to address the Cumberland County Sheriff.

He needs a letter such as this:
Quote:
Sheriff R. Thomas Kline
1 Courthouse Square
Room 303
Carlisle, PA17013

Dear Sheriff Kline,

Thank you for your helpful list of suggestions that came with my License to Carry Firearms. I especially appreciated the comment that firearms must be concealed at all times.

Rest assured I am cognizant of Pennsylvania’s firearms laws, and court rulings thereto, especially these two:

Commonwealth v. Hawkins, 692 A.2d 1068, n.4 (“In all parts of Pennsylvania, persons who are licensed may carry concealed firearms. 18 Pa.C.S. § 6108. Except in Philadelphia, firearms may be carried openly without a license. See Ortiz v. Commonwealth, 545 Pa. 279, 283, 681 A.2d 152, 155 (1996) (only in Philadelphia must a person obtain a license for carrying a firearm whether it is unconcealed or concealed; in other parts of the Commonwealth, unconcealed firearms do not require a license)”).

Ortiz v. Commonwealth, 545 Pa. 279; 681 A.2d 152 (1996) (agreeing with appellant’s citation of the fact that "...in Philadelphia County, the legislature requires that a person must be licensed to carry weapons openly and not concealed from sight, whereas in all other counties of Pennsylvania, weapons may be carried openly without a license [, but holding that appellant’s argument that this fact then exempts Philadelphia from state preemption statute] is plainly without merit” [emphasis added]”).

Enclosed for your perusal and edification is a Pennsylvania Firearms Laws pamphlet.

Sincerely,
