"Carrying Concealed In Philadelphia Is Illegal!!!" is what an old friend of mine from high school said to me last night. He's going to college in philly and he swears on his soul that carrying concealed or owning a hand gun in philly is illegal. He then gave the reason of "the police banned guns in philly because of all the shit going on, they just dont need more people with guns when the gang members already have them". I was like wow to myself. This is the kind of ass backwards thinking that gets nothing accomplished. I didn't even bother explaining to him why he was wrong, because he was so damned sure he was right. Not worth arguing with someone who is ignorant. If he refuses to recognize the fact the he is legally able to carry a weapon for self defense then its his life on the line and not mine. However, I'll be carrying when I go down to philly you can all be assured of that. Just wanted to throw this out here on the forums because it annoyed the hell out of me!!

Okay, so he's going to college. Maybe he'll learn a thing or two. Become a defacto college professor and educate him. Ask him to find the law that makes carrying concealed illegal. He's got a college library at his beck and call. Have him research Pennsylvania firearms laws on the Internet. Teach him to think independently. Put the onus on him to prove his point.

Not exactly related, but an example of misinformation:

In a recent conversation with my 26 year old cousin, "Wait, you mean you don't need a permit to own a gun?" Now mind you, her dad shoots service rifle competitions, has been to Camp Perry for National Matches, her uncle that lives about 15 minutes from where she grew up is an FFL. Just another example of how misinformed people become when the believe everything they hear. She was a little more receptive to re-education, but she isn't interested in guns. I even said something to the effect of " young single girl living alone, you should have a gun". Her reply was along the lines of, "I feel safe". How safe is Latrobe? I assume it's pretty safe, but thought her response was typical of reality ignorant people (sheep).

I doubt there is a "safe" place on this earth, unless you can somehow afford a 1 person island where you never have to meet another soul.

Boy ain't this the truth. How many of us REALLY knew the law before we found this site. I know I didn't. The info passed on to me was wrong. And most of the locals around here, keep passing that same line of bull to their kids even now. And most of them are gun owners. It is a real pity that no one seems to really know the law.
