LTCF Question

Are you allowed to carry a photocopy of your permit? I photocopied mine at 59%, then laminated it and stuck that in my wallet. I am a non-resident (in the peoples motherland of Illinois) and am excited that even though I can't carry in my own state, so far I have a PA Permit, and a Florida Permit on the way.

As far as I know, yes. You can carry a photocopy reduced and laminated for wallet carry. I've read of others doing that.

When I got my last two "paper" LTCFs from Bucks County, I folded it so it would fit in my wallet and used clear packing tape to laminate it. Never faded and stayed in one piece.

Funny thing..... not really topic related But do you happen to know of Shooting Sports Unlimited??? Couple of us Pa guys (2 of us and one from MA) were there over the weekend while visiting friends in Iowa. Nice store, owners are very nice people. I talked to a gentleman, older gentleman, in his 70's, retired, nice fellow.... who funny enough was looking to purchase a rifle from the town I live in and even stranger it was only a few blocks from my house. We go out that way every year and next year we were thinking about planning a small shoot with my friends and I at their indoor range.

I have bought most of my guns there, Steve and Jim are good folks. A bit pricier than other places, but it's a great place.

You should have seen their old shop, that burned down. They lost a lot of money when that happened.

Let me know when next you are coming into town, I will meet up with you there to shoot. It's located in Moline, I live in East Moline about 10 minutes from that store.

Well, the wording in the law is a bit troubling.

There's no law against copying it, and there are only laws against false identification.

Many places in the UFA there is reference to the piece of paper that helps to prove licensure, but they just call it the license, even though a license is really just a grant from the state. Consider the following:

You get arrested for carrying without a license because you have a concealed firearm and can't produce the associated paper, even though you have it at home. You go to court and produce it, and it is found to be a valid piece of paper indicated licensure. You're then found not guilty.

If the license was the piece of paper, then you'd be guilty, because you didn't have it at the time of arrest.

Therefore, the license isn't really the piece of paper, and presenting a facsimile representation, supposing your original is valid and you do not intend to deceive, would not be against the law and should be valid evidence of licensure.

We spent 2 hours in there chatting it up with everyone. Gun prices seemed higher than I'm used to but I guess thats to be expected considering local laws etc. The ammo prices seemed on par with stuff out my way.

We only make it out there once a year so our next trip wouldn't be until next summer sometime but I'd be more than happy to let you know when that is.

They sold me an XD(M) Bitone for 700 +tax, I was looking to drive 2 hours away and pick it up instead but when I realized I would have only saved 70 dollars not including the cost of gas I decided to buy it there. When I mentioned this to them, they kicked in a 1 year membership to their indoor range.

The last time i renewed mine, the Deputy recommended i go to Copy-Rite and have shrunk and laminated. He said to keep the original at home in case my wallet was lost or stolen. Hope this helps.
