Philly, my city, my LTCF experience, (and my Philly LEO experiences)

I will say that as a kid, and even young adult, I had more tolerance for cities.
Now, with kids, decreasing tolerance for traffic , etc. I just don't like them.

Born and raised in a 1-light town I guess the city life never really appealed to me.

Unfortunately, unlike smaller towns, cities have many pockets. As a matter of fact, 3 blocks north or 4 blocks west of where I live are 'no go' zones for the immediate areas. CHOP is on the edge of West Philly, along the river. Anywhere west of 39th up north of Market St. should be avoided. I guess it's just knowing where to go, and more importantly, where NOT to go is half of the game in living in Philly.

I moved to Philly for school from Frederick (where people are called Fred Necks), MD. I hated Philly at first. Until I learned my way and made friends, it was as much dismal as it was for any visitors who don't know their ways around, ESPECIALLY with the traffic.

One thing I must say though is that I have heard public schools are TERRIBLE in Philly...definitely not a place to bring up kids (for cheap).

Long story, for another thread perhaps, but we were the intended victims of an apparent carjacking (or Tahoe-jacking as would be more accurate) attempt in W. Phila during one of our medical related trips.

That was not exactly a great impression on two people that already had no love for the city

We home-school because the public schools are terrible here too! I have heard they are worse in Phila too.

I spent 4 months in a city the size of Philly area-wise, it was just over 1,000,000 people and I enjoyed it thoroughly. It was a semester abroad for college so I didn't have to deal with a work schedule or anything like that. I didn't drive, so there was no issue with traffic, just public transportation. I wouldn't want to live in Philly permanently. I would love to have a studio apartment in Philly (I can at least carry there versus NYC) to have a place to go spend some time in the city and do the shop/eat/sports stuff, but then I could come back home and get away from the circus. I'm too into getting out in the woods, hiking, and what not to live in the city all the time.

I lived outside Philadelphia in Darby for 35 years born in Philadelphia live at 50th in west Philly till I was 3. Since I've seen other cities and countries. Have no desire to move back. I do moss the Vespers Club,Le Beck Fin, and Bookbinders in the old city. There was a restaurant ship on front street is it still there ? Also miss cheesestakes but I get one or two or three or more when I visit my children down there

I don't live in philly nor have I ever been there. I don't nessicarly "hate" on philly either. But just from this..

In any case, I went to apply for my LTCF 6 weeks ago, my application was 90% complete except for one of my proofs of residence was missing.

Yeah my "proof" of residence was my PA Driver's Liscense and vehicle registration.

I had a pleasant interview. The questions on the application were straight-forward, cannot be misunderstood, and at no point did I feel that she was trying to trip me up.

No interview in Allegheny County (and lots of others)

She even jumped the answer, "Self Defense," after she asked me "Why do I need a license"

That was a checkbox on my application. Not a question they "Asked"

I got my LTCF yesterday - 6 weeks to the day!

Mine was a little under 3 weeks.

So not trying to diss on philly, but just in comparison to *1* part of carrying a firearm in philly and already plenty that is MUCH easier/faster elsewhere in the state.

Not to mention, the fact that when (guesstimated) 90% of the anti-gun laws/bills come from philly reps/mayors/police chiefs, it makes me glad to not be there contributing my tax dollars to such a system.

I hear they make a great cheesesteak though

Everytime I come back from a new city in Europe, I tried to find something similar in Philly and always manage to find it. It's a odd thing, but that's what makes the city loveable for me. My wife takes PT to work everyday and will be CC soon
