I've found a few threads related to references but none that has precisely the info I'm looking for.
My situation is that I just moved to western PA where I previously knew no one. So my most likely references to use are a few of my buddies from out of state. I'm curious as to what you all know or have experienced regarding references. Specifically....any idea with what frequency references are contacted? always? most of the time? seldom? And what exactly are the references for?? just to have someone say I'm not a psycho ax murderer? Are my buddies who've known me 15 years ok or should I shoot for something "stronger"? Does it matter if the references are a few states away? Can I pay you five dollars to be my reference? thanks! |

My references were never contacted. Chester County.
My advice is to put down references for people who know you well and that you trust. They can be from out of state. Above all... do not lie about anything on your application.
