I'm new here, but very glad to have found the site. While I have read everything I could on concealed carry in PA., I've already learned alot more here.
I would like to clarify one point, does our carry permit allow us to only carry concealed, or is open carry allowed? Thanks, Don |

You need no permit to open carry in any area where carrying a firearm is legal, except in a vehicle or Philadelphia. www.opencarry.org is a great place to get information regarding open carry.

AMC movie theatres post signs on the door to "prohibit" customers from concealed carry. Let's respect their wishes and just not go to the movies.

This is very interesting about carring in a bar or restaurant that servers alcohol in the state of Pennsylvania. Having obtained a conceal carry in the state of Texas, there is an automatic 5years for bringing your handgun into a bar or eatery with an alcohol permit. Pretty stiff. In the state of Virginia, where I live, it is a no-no. Hope I am still up on my laws. I don't drink, personal preference, so I don't worry about what the gentleman has as a concern.....but Virginia has strick "brandishing" laws,,,how is that in Pennsylvania?? I enjoy the forum very much. Keep up the great views.

Actually in VA, you must open carry in a restaurant that serves alcohol. And IIRC you cannot be charged with brandishing if doing so. Look at the VCDL and see what they've been doing in virginia. I think their website is www.VCDL.org

Since I've had my permit to carry in PA, I've been trying to figure out the actual law on carrying into a bar or restaurant in PA.
Can you legally carry (concealed) in a place that serves alcohol? I've heard so many different stories on the topic, that its hard to know for sure. So called experts seem to have different opinions, and the laws themselves are so damn vague that nobody can really figure it out. I don't carry when I'm going out drinking, but you gotta wonder if you happen to have supper an an Applebees if you are taking a risk because they serve margaritas there. |

PA has no posting or restriction on carrying into bars, restaurants or liquor stores.
If however you were close to or over the DUI limit that could be bad news if carrying and having to use it. Carry = stay dry. We have three primes to avoid - schools, Fed property and Court houses.
