Cool LTCF vs CCW vs CCP.

Unless I have misread my permit, and isunderstood people that I have talked to. There is no permit to carry a concealed weapon. You are issued a Liscence to carry firearms, correct? Or have I made an agregious error?

The correct terminology for the card in your wallet in this state is a "License to Carry Firearms"

Default Re: LTCF vs CCW vs CCP.

it is called a license to carry firearms...no mention of the word concealed (or weapon).

however, the law that creates the license states:

Quote:
§ 6109. Licenses.
(a) Purpose of license.--A license to carry a firearm shall be for the purpose of carrying a firearm concealed on or about one's person or in a vehicle throughout this Commonwealth.
so, even though the word concealed is not in the name, it is in fact a "concealed carry permit" (as well as a "car carry permit", since you need a license to carry a loaded "firearm" in a car whether it is concealed or not).

also, the license applies to firearms (as per the legal definition) only:

Quote:
"Firearm." Any pistol or revolver with a barrel length less than 15 inches, any shotgun with a barrel length less than 18 inches or any rifle with a barrel length less than 16 inches, or any pistol, revolver, rifle or shotgun with an overall length of less than 26 inches. The barrel length of a firearm shall be determined by measuring from the muzzle of the barrel to the face of the closed action, bolt or cylinder, whichever is applicable.
the license does not cover long guns (neither does the law, so, technically, you could carry a concealed ar-15 without a license) or knives or other weapons.

It also allows for open carry in cities of the first class or throughout the commonwealth during declared emergencies. So, no. It is not an exclusively "concealed carry permit".

Because the thing prohibited in the PA UFA is carrying concealed without a license. No word of open carrying...i.e. it ain't outlawed so its legal.

Quote:
§6106. Firearms not to be carried without a license.

(a) Offense defined.*

(1) Except as provided in paragraph (2), any person who carries a firearm in any vehicle or any person who carries a firearm concealed on or about his person, except in his place of abode or fixed place of business, without a valid and lawfully issued license under this chapter commits a felony of the third degree.

No law prohibiting OC except in:
1) Cities of the first class
2) DEclared state of emergency (state)
3) Vehicles (because it's considered "concealed", which is BS IMHO)
All three are exempted (allowed) w/ a LTCF [bolded for axmdr40 ]
