Thumbs up My Citizens Bank Park (Phillies) Firearms Check w/ PPD - Updated Page 4 (May 2011)

So I was at the game tonight against the Braves. We won, 1-0! Anyway, when I arrived, I waited in the regular line and told the security staff (who were definitely doing good pat downs) that I had to check a firearm at the Command Center. He told me where it was, and I walked myself over there. It is at the Employee/Media entrance on Darien Street, just south of 10th St. I opened the door, and there is a counter that states "Command Center" when you first walk in, on your right. I told the rep that I needed to check a firearm. He was incredibly nice and said "Sure, no problem, let me take you to the lockers". So on the way out he mentioned something to a co-worked, who was a former Sheriff, and they were joking around regarding the firearm check (just normal colleague banter that I'm sure we all have) & included me in it. I was amused.

We made our way down the hall, to the right, and down another hall to the right. The whole time the rep was smiling, and joking with me, and explaining where we were going, etc. Once we arrived at the police room (same room where the red guy in tights was held last night), he then said "Here you go, they'll help you from here on out". So, at this point, PPD was helping me. A female officer was behind the one desk, and a male at the other, 2 holder cells were on the right. The female officer asked for my name, address, and cell # to call me if I didn't pick up my firearm after the game. She asked for a license (not specifically LTCF) so she could copy the info. I obliged. She then escorted me to a room with a locker, which had smaller lock boxes in it. At that point she just said make sure not to forget the firearm or she'll call me to remind me to get it. I went to my seat and enjoyed the game.

After the win, I came back to the room. Same PPD officers. She recognized me, and took me right to the locker after a quick chit chat. I grabbed my Glock, holstered it, joked around for a few minutes with the PPD officers and several others who had just walked in. Then I left. Not one thing, in my opinion, was bad about this. Everyone was incredibly nice, and they never ran my serial # that I know of (I confirmed how I put the firearm into the safe and removed it in the precise same position). Just a heads up if you want to check a firearm in the future - it's not a bad system in my opinion.

I will be at another game this weekend to see if things go the same way.

I wonder if PPD is "running" your gun while attending the game. In an earlier thread someone posted about PPD "running" guns for individuals checking firearms at Hospital of Univ of Penn.

Yah, that's why I mentioned what I did. It was in the same position as where I put it in the lock box. I don't think they ran it - she didn't seem much interested in running serial numbers. But, who knows?!

Thanks for the update! Good thinking on remembering exactly how you placed your firearm in there.

Maybe we could merge the threads to make it easier to follow?

Was it really necessary to get your name, address, phone number and drivers license?

    Too much IMHO

too much? you're leaving your valuable firearm in the possession of someone else. would you suggest scribbling your first name on a shred of paper and taping it to the gun instead?

I agree, I see nothing wrong with that. If I was checking a camera, or laptop, or anything (hypothetically of course) I'd want them to have my full info and cell # as well.

One way you could check to see if someone does any unauthorized number checking is to simply place a small piece of matching color tape over your firearms serial number and then when you regain possession, see if its been disturbed. Since your NOT "defacing" or removing the serial number in anyway, this seems like a cheap and easy way to check if Big Brother is up to no good
