That was Mike. He was using a .22LR conversion kit in his AR.

So I'm thinking it *might* be okay then to shoot rimfire for the rifle portion? If it gets clarified or approved by the club, please let me know!

Thanks

Thanks for the correction Dave. Perhaps I should make the change to .22.

It most certainly IS ok. But as far as I know, if you shoot .22LR in rifle you must ALSO shoot .22LR in your pistol.

Yeah, that's the part that would do me in, since the only .22 pistol I have is a Ruger Single Six....can't use speedloaders and is s-l-o-w to reload!

I expect a "slow winter" work-wise, so buying a new (additional) rifle may be out of the question.....although, I may be able to slide that past the wife a little easier since I have "justification"!

Maybe buying a Browning Buckmark or Ruger .22LR pistol would be more easily done? Would be much cheaper than buying an AR!

That is so funny...I'm sitting here at work racking my brain on what "magazine fed" rifle I want to look for...a co-worker has a M-1 .30 carbine for sale at $400, so I'm thinking about that, but the ammo is very pricey (the reason he's selling it)......

Then I thought, not too long ago, I saw a NICE used stainless Ruger MKII at Gun Traders for around $200...

That's it! A MKII with a bull barrel....always wanted one for some reason. I think those only have 10 round mags, so I'll need a bunch of them....

Now, I just thought of...what about a Ruger 10/22 Charger? It's classified as a pistol when you buy one, but I really don't think they make holsters for them! I would have all the mags I could ever need though...

Well, I have a few months to save up anyway....

Yeah the Charger would be a pretty bad choice! Just remember if you get a .22 pistol to get one with decent sights, since optics are NOT allowed on the pistols.

I just had another thought. The original rule was NO rimfire, centerfire only. The shoot director started to allow the use of .22 around the elections and the following months when ammo became so hard to find. There IS a chance that this rule will be put pack into effect.

Sooooo maybe think about a Ruger Mini 14 as a less expensive centerfire rifle?

HiPoint has some pretty cheap pistol caliber rifles... MSRP of 220 for their 9mm carbine I think.

Hey, that's a great idea too...I like the after market ATI stocks for them and they can take the Glock mags which are plentiful.....not to mention I have thousands of rounds of 9mm since I reload it. I've been drooling for a Beretta CX-9 rifle but can't pony up the money right now or in the near future (if anyone else has 3 kids, you'll understand!)

This might be the best idea yet! Thank you......!!
