Question "Standard" target

What are a few "standard" targets for scoring competitions? I suppose I would need a few in each category (handgun, shotgun, rifle).

Or look at the USPSA and IDPA rules for layouts, specs etc of all targets used in all different categories.

Standard targets.
What type of shooting are you interested in? At what distance?
There are lots of "standard" targets with scoring rings. For Bullseye shooting alone there are two for use at 50 feet (B2/B3), two for use at 25 yards (B16/B8), one more for use outdoors, the 50 yard B6 target. What they have in common is that they all subtend the same minutes of angle so that, regardless of distance, they appear to be the same width to the shooter.
There are lots more Standard targets for other disciplines - Smallbore rifle, Highpower rifle, Air Rifle, International pistol. In addition, there is a whole slew of targets for practical shooting.
The standard target for a shotgun is most probably the clay pigeon. There might be a paper shotgun target for CAS.

Let's start with pistol. Non-IDPA/USPSA.

Not practical shooting targets. Then it seems you'd like classic Bullseye targets - round, black with white scoring rings moving to white edges with black scoring rings. Those are the B2, B3, B6. B8, B16 standard targets for Conventional Bullseye pistol. For International pistol, the targets are different - and in some ways, more difficult.
I found them surprisingly difficult to find for free - but I suppose that if you work your way through the links already posted, you can find them.
They can be purchased easily enough. Online, they are available from Champions Choice or from Midway, to name two.

It depends on the purpose your shooting for.

If you're just judging accuracy..then something like the B-8 is a good target.

If you're judging good combat hits...then something like the CSAT target is a good target. I shoot a set of "standards" on this:

Many shooters just use an IDPA or IPSC backer.

It depends if you want to reward precision shooting, or shooting fast enough to still get "acceptable hits". IE: is it better to shoot a fist sized group fast, or a quarter sized group slow?

These are some other popular qualification targets for different LE agencies...
A secret service target:

A FBI target:

A hostage rescue target:
Great to run for time on each target.
An IALEFI target:

For speed comparison the FAST test is good to run...

as are your own drills and exercises.

You can buy all of the above targets from www.letargets.com
