Sorry I ain`t buying the responses that call this a normal reaction and train the family. You need to figure out what your sleep issues are and lose the sleep drugs. If you have to have a little help once in a while take a Benadryl.
Shit happens and people yell and panic. If you are going to use firearms then you have to be rational, cognisant and aware or you are a danger to loved ones, innocent people and yourself. No excuse for that reaction.

If you read about stages if sleep you'd know that this is typical and that you have probably been in the same situation for probably brief periods of time because the situations have not required that much activity. People often are in a semi awake state several times during the course of an average night. That's a fact, period. If you don't believe it educate yourself. As for danger, I see nothing in the original post that put anyone in danger. During the whole clearing he was making clear and rational actions. I believe this is soooo well documented that case law give us a full eight seconds after awaking of no responsibility whatsoever! There are also people who wake up (experienced thus myself) only to not be able to move at all for seconds that feel like an eternity. Your body produces a chemical that paralyses you while sleeping. this keeps up from moving and acting out our dreams! Do you move during your sleep? huh? Typically people do this is because you are not fully asleep! Just like 99.999% of the world including the OP. He was awake, not sleep walking but not yet 100% aware. This happens when most normal people get up. If you're in certain cycles you cannot prevent this.

Watch out the superteam friends with self proclaimed super spydie senses are going to start to chime in with their set of Ninja skills that sleep with one eye open and are so situationally away that they can hear flys crawling on the wall in the house next door. Ignore them!

If you truly wish to get sleep...the problem may be right under you. ITS YOUR OLD CRAPPY MATTRESS. Its funny people would rather spend money on drugs than replace the mattress they got when they were married 15 yrs ago. There are some really awesome sleep systems out there now that fit all comfort levels. You just have to be willing to invest in yourself. Try a Tempurpedic mattress if you like a firm feel and a Comforpedic if you like a softer feel. It doesn't have to be crazy expensive either. You can find a solution at any price, especially in this economy salespeople are hurting and will snatch up any sale they can. Take advantage of the economic downturn and get a new bed. ![]() Check this bed out you wont believe stuff like this exists !!!! http://www.starrynightbed.com

I still don`t buy this is normal and if you read of some testimonies of people that take Lunesta and Ambien it`s pretty scary.

If you were aware you notice it in yourself. don't believe me just do a little googleing. Do you even know how many dreams you have in one night? if you said one or two. You're probably unaware or an alien. People have many dreams the top level is around 7 the typical is around 5. Nothing here remotely resembles sleep walking. Nothing he posted was dangerous. Lunesta probably had zero to do with this situation. Specifically because lunesta is basically known not to activly produce situations of sleep walking in those not prone to sleep walking. The warning is a cover our ass warning. Ambien however has plenty of these documented. I'm in pharamacuticle marketing research. I don't just play one on TV and the Internet
. Sounds to me like this isn't his first tenth or 30th time taking it and the episode doesn't indicate anything close the sleep walking so the warning doesn't play here.

In my amateur opinion, it sounds like a combination of effects. The effects of conditioning are well known. Sleep drugs do weird things to the brain, though by the looks of it Ambien is worse than Lunesta in that regard. |

About the lock the hubs up until I was fully aware.
1) had there been an intruder you'd be dead so would he since his wife woke him up! 2) He got his whole family in the safe room! Then he made his firearm ready gave it to his wife and then got another and then cleared the house! That was longer than some PA background checks take! 3). I think you've read into this much more than was there

In one regards I have to agree with exbiker, have firearms and not being fully "with it" because of sleep issues is a receipt for disaster.
Get your sleep issues under control. But I will agree with others here that the family needs to be involved and understand how to approach you to lessen the dramatic response of waking up suddenly. Good luck and see a professional.
