Default Re: Dry Fire Drills? How Often?

For rifle I have some scaled dry fire targets. They simulate AQT targets at 100, 200, and 300 yards. They are supposed to be placed 10' away so that's perfect for living room dry firing. My google foo can't find a link right now but they are out there.

For dry firing pick the smallest target possible. A small spot on the wall works best. Random dry fire is not enough. You need to approach dry fire like live fire.....with ccertain skillsets in mind. First is trigger pull.

Now.....after trigger pull is in place......transitions are WHERE IT'S AT!

Lead with the eyes.....rip the gun.....brake.....trip the trigger. Accuracy is trigger pull. Speed is in the transitions.

Racking the slide every time on the Glock does get tiring. But you can do a lot without pulling the trigger. I usually pull the trigger once every 5 presentations or so, rest of the time it's draw / getting on target quickly.

I don't dry fire...
For some reason, and I've never been able to figure out why, I just don't like it. Not in the sense that I think it's boring, in the sense that I actively dislike the practice.
I'm sure it would help me work out numerous problems with my shooting, but every time I think about adding it, I just can't bring myself to.

I highly recommend that you add it to your routine for 30 days for 10 min a day. Do that for 30 days and you will see an immediate improvement to your shooting and overall accuracy.

Force yourself to do it for 30 days and post the results...

Yes, a mirror can be a good aid for your presentation, but there are other things you can also use. Like Lycan mentioned I also use small targets in my room or around the house as my point of aim. Door knobs, curtain rod ends moving targets on your tv etc all make great aiming aids. I do it a fair amount just simply watching tv. I also will practice my hold during commercials building muscle memory....

Sounds like it is also good practice using the HOT method.... You get the best of both worlds!

I don't think you should look for a certain stance. When you find the place where the front sight sits still for you......you have found the perfect stance. The sights dictate what is correct....not what you look like.

When you are able to focus on the front sight in a variety of conditions you will find that the body will adapt and drive the gun to the target.....even if you have never practiced a certain presentation before.
