Default Mini-14 - classification for competition?

Does the Mini-14 qualify for this classification, since it uses the 5.56 ammo? ..."U.S. Rifle, Caliber 5.56 mm M16 series as issued by the U.S. Armed Forces, or the same type and caliber of commercially procured rifle." ... If not, then what it's classification?

What type of competition are you interested in shooting? If its HRA Highpower the mini 14 would be classed as a match rifle .Your quote in the post is refering to AR15 rifles with the same external appearance as the military issues 20 inch barrelled M16A2 shooting the 223 rd. which is in the Service rifle cat. If your interested in this type of competition your best path would be to sell or trade the Mini 14 on a AR 15 A2 or A4(detach. carry handle model) 2, 20 rd mags and a M1 web sling and your set to compete.

Tim,
Thanks this was a big help, especially since I confussed the two categories. I think we're going to stay our Bushmaster and stay in the AR class.
