18 Pa.C.S. § 6120

In other words, do I speak it as it is written; i.e. eighteen Pennsylvania C.S. section six-one-two-zero? Or, should I speak the words for which C.S. stands? What does C.S. mean?
There are several ways to say that, all of which are "correct".

I personally don't talk the way I write legal briefs, and my posts here are mostly written for non-lawyers, without Latin or the word "thus" or lengthy citations, which come across as gibberish and cause people to lose attention. You'll be talking to people who are mostly non-lawyers. It will mean less to them if you say "eighteen Pennsylvania consolidated statutes annotated Section sixty-one twenty" than if you just say what you mean, which is that "section sixty-one twenty of the Uniform Firearms Act" prohibits local regulation of firearms.

If someone needs to find the UFA, it's Chapter 61 of Title 18. Title 18 is the PA Crimes Code. Everything in Chapter 61 starts with "61XX".

Print out copies of 6120, have extras to hand out. At the top of the handout, that's a good place to write "18 PaCSA § 6120".

I would say, if speaking in court, which I rarely do, or to someone who I wanted to know what I was talking about in a somewhat plain way, "Section sixty-one-twenty of title eighteen of the Pennsylvania Code" or what gunlawyer001 said "Section sixty-one-twenty of the Pennsylvania Uniform Firearms Act."

Post Never Underestimate the Power of Corruption...

Good morning.

This morning I received the following reply from Linda Phiel, the Uwchlan Township secretary.

Quote:
From: Lynda Phiel
Sent: Friday, 4 September 2009 11:04
To: Lisa A. Compton
Subject: Re: Request to be Added to the Monthly Supervisors Meeting Agenda

Thank you for your input. You are welcome to come to the BOS meeting on 9/14.
To which I responded with:

Quote:
From: Lisa A. Compton
Sent: Friday, 4 September 2009 11:06
To: Lynda Phiel
Subject: RE: Request to be Added to the Monthly Supervisors Meeting Agenda

Good morning, Lynda.

Does this mean I am on the agenda or will I be speaking during the open comments/discussions period?

Thank you,

Lisa A. Compton

You can speak during the open comments/discussions period.
It isn't generally my practice to ascribe motive, but I don't believe for a second that they ever intended to add me to the agenda. I suspect that the agenda topic question was a preemptive maneuver to learn what's up so they can prepare. My guess is that they have something sneaky planned for the meeting. Perhaps, the township solicitor will be there to try and intimidate me and make it appear as though I don't know what I'm talking about. We'll see...

I'm not looking forward to this meeting, but I know that I am doing the right thing by confronting local corruption. The cost may be high. I don't believe that they will murder me, but I do believe that they are going to do everything in their power to make my life hell here in the township.

Never underestimate the power of corruption. It's ubiquitous and knows no rules. Government corruption is the purist form of Keyser Söze doctrine I've ever witnessed.

Really, all I needed was the proper pronunciation for the statute reference. Knowing that C.S. stands for consolidated statutes helps me a lot. I appreciate your filling that in for me.

I'm probably going to speak for two or three minutes instead of five. I'm pretty confident that these guys are planning something sneaky for me. I'm just not sure what that is...

I'm going to submit for the record a copy of my remarks along with an 8" x 10" print of the offending sign at Shamona Creek Park.

Giving everyone copies of 6120 is useless in my opinion. No one is going to read it and I can tell you now that the township isn't going to remove the preemption violation. They'll sooner remove me than do the right thing. I certainly don't like it, but that's the way it is. However, you're right, I will have copies of 6120 on hand just in case there is someone other than me who actually cares.

I like section sixty-one-twenty of title eighteen of the Pennsylvania code. I think I'll go with that phrase.

I believe that agenda for the meeting is established at the previous meeting...so they couldnt just throw you on for the upcoming meeting...now at the upcoming meeting they could add you to the agenda for the NEXT meeting....

I think thats how it works...

Nope, this is factually incorrect. The agenda is open until the day of the Uwchlan Township Board of Supervisors Meeting. If you read any of the meeting minutes (which are on-line here), you will see that the only action taken at the meetings with respect to other meetings is to approve the prior meeting's minutes, which is standard procedure under Robert's Rules of Order.

The meeting agenda for the Township Board of Supervisors Meeting is generally posted the day of the meeting here.
