I reread your post, your question was clear, I just misread it the first time. My bad.

The roads have changed somehate recently, so unless you have a new map you could get messed up. Rte 100 goes straight, but you need to go up the ramp on Pottstown Pike about 1/2 mile after getting off of 30 bypass. It's around a corner and easy to miss, so stay in the right lane. Pottstown Pike turns into High Street, which all used to be Rte 100, and even google maps still shows it that way. When you get into W. Chester, turn left on W. Chesnut St. and start looking for parking. Either on foot or still driving, make a left on N. Church St. The entrance you need to go into is on that street, and is easy to find by all the Sheriff's cars and reserved parking spots in front.

I did make it today and everything went fine. I just had to get on PENNDOT's website to switch my address on my license since it was from Montgomery County and print a copy off. The officer was nice and helped me out. He said most likely it will take 3-4 weeks...the average. I just can't wait to carry my G23. Thanks for all the info guy's!

A good bunch of folks down at the ChesCo. Sheriff's Dept. Some people have reported having problems on occasion, but I think the majority who've had dealings with the department have found it to be a positive experience, and I've never heard anyone who's met Sheriff Welsh say anything but good things about her, myself included. I often say I don't like to label her as pro-gun, but rather pro-law, and pro-citizen. Since the law protects gun ownership, PA is a shall issue state, and open carry is legal, she does not try to make exercising these rights a difficult process as some Sheriff's have been known to do.

One of the few issues I've ever seen contrary to Sheriff Welsh's unwaivering support of the commonwealth's gun laws is a boiler plate note her department has sent (and may still be sending) with new LTCFs, implying you should only CC once getting the license. Another issue that doesn't directly involve the Sheriff's department, but she might have some means of helping resolve is that apparently there are still a few townships and boroughs with unconstitutional ordinances prohibiting carrying guns on public property. Fortunately, we have a PAFOA member who seems to have a great letter drafted that he's been sending to township supervisors requesting these laws be stricken from the books, as well as making them aware of the potential consequences if they don't.

ChesCo is a red county in a sea of blue, and I think overall you'll find living here a much more pleasant place for gun owners than MontCo.

I'll second that, I was having trouble finding someone to do my fingerprint card for my Utah CWP, no one local would do prints for anything other than employment. I heard Chesco was a friendly spot so I emailed them, got a reply from the Chief Deputy saying he'd take care of it for me. He put his GP unit on notice that I was coming, got the prints and photo's I needed with no troubles (and for less than most folks paid) a good experience all around.

Bill

I am glad to hear this from people living in this county. I know I need to research more, actually I haven't done to much, about Chester expecially there gun laws. I don't start work for another week so I am going on a range hunt to find a good no BS range....I usually bring my 9 yr old. Any good gun shops around here? I always I thank all for their knowledge and respect.

Well the laws are the still the laws of the state, it's just the public's reaction to them that makes ChesCo a more pleasant place to live than MontCo. We're right on the border of "oh my god, he has a gun" and "oh cool, he has a gun". Horse and buggies to the West, massive traffic jams to the East. I can't help you with ranges or gun shops in the Southern end of the county, but there's a few members who also live in that area, so post a question in the appropriate forum page and I'm sure you'll get some good ideas. You've also got Lancaste Co. right next door and I've heard they have some great ranges over there. Again, welcome to ChesCo, and thank you for your service to our country!

I live about a mile west of Harry's in Sadsburyville.

There are a couple of ranges close:
West Caln Sportsmens not too far from Hibernia park.
Atglen Sportsmens in...well...Atglen
Southern Chester County Sportsmens

All have their good/bad points. Personally, I belong to Atglen.

I've gone to Village Arms in Gap and it's OK. There are other places through Lancaster County that aren'y too far. There's always French Creek Outfitters.

From what I read on the Chester County Sheriff's site, the $46.00 is only if you get your permit printed on PVC. If you stick with the paper license, it's $25.00.

You should feel lucky. Here in Michigan, it's $105.00, for a 5 year permit, and that is a paper license. If you want it laminated, they charge a dollar extra for that.

And for my first one, I waited 113 days, from the day I filed my application, to the day I got a card in the mail, saying I could pick it up at the county clerk's office.

Renewal was a little faster, about 42 days, but still $105.00.
