Chester County is about as gun friendly a county as you're going to find, quite frankly. Welsh is a great sheriff, she signs off on NFA paperwork without any hassles, the deputies know firearms law fairly well, and they're extremely friendly.

I took my wife to get her permit in Chester County about 2 years ago -- she filled out the application, did the picture, etc., at about 2pm or so. The next morning at 11am, her permit was sitting in our mailbox.

My Chester County renewal (from a Philadelphia permit) was in my mailbox within a week, tops.

I haven't a single bad thing to say about Welsh, her office, or her deputies.

Ditto, my wife got hers no problem, I think it took 4 days. I think I've allready said this, but I put in for mine on a Friday of all days, but had it in the mail Monday afternoon.

I found it more difficult to find a parking spot in West Chester than it was to apply. The application is online and can be filled out on the computer and printed (but not saved). This saved the Sheriff's department staff the agony of reading my handwriting.

The state mandates that counties notify applicants of there grant or denial within 45 days, but I've never heard of anyone who had to wait that long. I just walked in today and got my mug shot taken as well as my money, so I'll report back on how long it takes for mine to come in.

BTW, I picked up a free gun lock at the desk when I turned in my application. It gave me the impression that they feel gun control should remain the responsibilty of the owner, not Congress, and they were willing to give away free locks to help drive home the point.

As promised, I'm back to let you know it took 20 days from the time I submitted my application for a LTCF to the day I got it in the mail.

Maybe I got mine quicker cause I gave them a copy of my picture that's hanging on the post office wall so they didn't have to take another one.

Hey, the application didn't ask if I was on the 10 most wanted list!

Another thumbs up for Sheriff Welsh. Besides her office's efficiency in handling my LTCF, if I may go off topic for a second, I have to commend her deputies who come out to the elementary schools to teach the DARE program. All of my kids have gone through it and said the course is fun, educational and impactful. Because of her deputies efforts, my kids and I can now talk openly about what's going on in school and on the streets, and they've taught me a lot about today's temptations (unfortunately we've come a long way since weed, shrooms and ludes were the biggest threats).

lol! I should have done that too then. Seriously, I don't know why mine is taking so long...I have a clean record, and just purchased two firearms in the last 4-5 months, so I know I can pass a background check no problem. I've been half tempted to call and inquire about it, but I don't want to annoy them and have it delayed even longer.

Quick question...how long before your permit arrived did they cash your check? I just looked back over my bank statement and they cashed mine back on the 22nd of March.

I wrote the check on the afternoon of 3/16, it cleared my bank on 3/21. So three business days. I got the LTCF in the mail on 4/5, and it's dated 4/2
