Good Job.

Anxiously awaiting the generic response that goes something like:

Thank you for your concern while I am relatively certain council can regulate firearms on its own property, i.e. municipal courthouse, I will take up this matter with council and advise our solicitor.

I wish I'd seen this thread earlier. I'd love to have been a co-signer to those letters, since I regularly take my family to Centre County parks. Do you mind if I lift some of the verbage from your letters? I'll just send my own out.

I have no problem if you want to use it. I suppose it couldn't hurt if more people sent letters.

This is an afterthought and hypothetical, but can't they ban the discharge of firearms?

What would your legal status be as far as the locals are concerned if you used your gun in self-defense against an assailant or a critter?

It would be mighty stupid if it was a good shoot under state law but then you were on the hook for discharging your weapon for good reason.

Yes, actually they can prohibit the discharge of a weapon, but I think that they typically consider the "reckless" discharge. I don't believe that they would push the "discharge prohibited" if it was a good shoot. Hoever, they could be anal and try to push it but I think a good lawyer would make them look foolish, especially in the press. In my letters I only brought up the possession of the firearm, which we know they can't regulate. That way they can reword it to be happy and maybe say "the illegal discharge of a firearm is prohibited". If they asked me that is what I would recommend.

Even if this happened wouldn't it just be a summary offense?

I for one do not want any offense on my record especially for something that is not illegal.

So, if I discharge my firearm in a "lawful manner" while defending myself, I guess it isn't really a "illegal discharge of a firearm" is it.
