Default General Ammo questions -- 9mm FMJ

I am a new gun owner, having just purchased a Glock 19. Presently, I'm firing Federal AE 9mm FMJ 124gr ammo at the range. I'm paying $9.95/box, if I remember correctly. I have a few utter newbie questions about ammo that I was hoping to get some information on:

1) Is Federal AE decent/good target ammo?

2) All other things equal, why would I choose one manufacturer's ammo over another?

3) What's considered a good price per round for 9mm ammo, both by the box and the case?

4) I've been reading the threads about buying ammo (thank you for the great info!), both online and regionally. Is there a place not terribly far from Northeast Philly where one can buy ammo at a good price, or is it better to use online venues? Sure, I trade shipping for tax, but with a big enough price break, it's worth it.

I'm sure I'll have dozens of other questions as time goes on. If there are good guides or FAQ's that provide this information, by all means point me at them. I'll be happy to read!

Thank you, in advance!

Yes. In fact, any of the "second label" brands (American Eagle is the second label for Federal, etc) are fine.

Not really. Once you get to the tier AE is at, no need to change. AE, UMC, S&B, Magtech are all on a par.

Your $10/box = $200 a case, pretty far on the high side.

You can get AE online for about $150/case (plus shipping), or CCI Blazer for about $10 less than that:

Some ranges don't allow CCI Blazer (i.e., aluminum cased ammo), so check with your range first.

Another good source:

Don't buy "American Ammunition," ever.

Some people like and some dislike Wolf ammo for pistols; I have no opinion, but personally don't shoot it.

Some people like and some dislike reloaded ammo (e.g. Ultramax) for pistols; I have no opinion, but personally don't shoot it.

Once in a blue moon you see a local store or a Walmart with the same or close prices, but not reliably.

I find with the weight of the ammo to be so much that it is too expenise to ship. The last time I tried to buy online they wanted 40 or 50 bux to ship 20 boxes of ..45, that made the price more than would I would pay at walmart.

As for the type of ammo. I shoot what ever I can find the cheapest. At walmart I get the Winchester Value Pack (WWB) 100 rounds for 15.42. so that breaks down to around 8 bux after tax.

For my .45 I shoot cci blazer for 12 bux for a box of 50
