Default .30 Herret

Are the 30-30 Winchester round and the .30 Herret round interchangeable?

Thanks,
Joe

No Sir.

The 30 Herrett is formed from 30/30 brass but it is a good bit shorter and some of the taper in the case is blown out. Also, the shoulder on the Herrett is much sharper. It is an excellent round in a Contender.

Is there any more common rounds I can shoot out of the .30 herret barrel without damagr?

No. The .30 Herret is a bottle-necked cartridge - with bottle-necked platforms you only use what it is chambered for, with exception of proper Ackley Improved chambers using the parent cartridge.

Rimmed straight wall platforms have the advantage of being able to use shorter/lesser powerful cartridges.

Knight is correct although I believe he wanted to say "bottle-necked" cartridge instead of "bolt-necked"

How did you end up with a Herrett? I hope you reload because that is about your only option with the Herrett cartridges.

My friend does and he has a 30-30 setup so I'm sure if I by the modifications he needs he'll make them for me and I found a place that sell 20 round boxes for $20.

I assume at $20.00 that is brass only. If your friend is loading for the Herrett let them know that headspace is pretty critical for good results in a Contender. If the case is too long you get misfires and too short you get poor accuracy and short case life. Again it is an excellent round and gives very close to 30/30 velocity in a Contender with less powder especially in a 10" barrel

I have a 30 cal herret. It came with a bunch of loaded rounds and the reloading dies. Its a pretty accurate gun.
