Default 45LC

I was at cabelas the other day and was looking at the 45 long colt revolvers and wanted to check out the ammo but all I could find was 45 colt, my question is -- are 45 colt and 45 long colt the same ammo? Thanks Yote.

".45 Long Colt" is a misnomer, an invented term in order to distinguish .45 Colt from the shorter .45 Schofield. The actual designation of the cartridge is, and always has been, simply .45 Colt.

Yes, 45 Colt and 45 "Long Colt" are the same. The proper term is "45 Colt", but "45 Long Colt" is commonly used for the same.

There was another "45 Colt", but it's name was subtly changed to a few other monikers when the "45 Colt" we know today came out. Also, to distinguish it from the .45 S&W Schofield.

I love reloading for 45 colt... it just feels right.

For bullets I am using these:
http://www.missouribullet.com/

At the price they sell them I haven't felt the need to cast yet.

Their 45 "Cowboy" bullets (250 grain LNFP) are plenty hard enough for anything you are going to throw out of the NV. Also, I load all my 45's with Unique at anywhere from 7 - 9 grains per load depending on what I want it for. For the last batch, a 1.0cc scoop dropped just about 8 grains of powder which clocked out at 780fps which was my sweet spot.. not to fast, but not so slow I had to aim high. For my NV with 4 5/8" barrell they shot perfect at POA out at 25 yards.

Congrats on the new gun
