I always tumble the cases (.223) prior to resizing for about 20-30 minutes in walnut media. I do this to clean off any grit that may have stuck to the case after landing on the ground. After resizing/decapping the case, I run them in the tumbler to clean off the resizing wax for another 15 minutes. I don't care how shinny the brass is or isn't. How pretty my brass is doesn't improve it's accuracy.

I've never replaced my walnut media in over 2 years and thousands of rounds. I don't like the powder residue of corncob media.

As for media stuck in flash holes, I rarely have this happen, I use a media separator that does a good job of dislodging all media from the brass. I always check each case, just in case, prior to priming.
