Today was very calm so I got out 3 kinds of bulk .22s from Wal-Mart and 2 regular brands of 22s, all were LRHP. I brought Winchester X-pert bulk, Federal bulk hp and Remington bulk 'golden' hps.
The regular brands were Winchester superX copper plated hp and CCI mini-mag copper plated hp. Of the bulk stuff the Remingtons were the worst by far with lousy groups and flyers[4] eextending the group out to 1 3/4 inch at 50yds, the best of the bulk was the Xpert at about 1 1/8 including flyers [2] and the Fedeal would have been best of bulk but had 3 flyers opening group to a little more than the Winchester X-pert. Of regular brand 22lrhp CCI was best actually shooting about 5/8 inch and the SuperX went about 3/4 inch. I have been shooting the bulk stuff for about 7 years but now I don't care if it's cheaper, Im sticking with the Mini-Mag LRHPs. All goups were 10 shots off a bench with sand bag, rifle was CZ 452 American with a Leupold 2-7x28mm scope set on 6X. |

I use Win X-Pert for shooting bullseye competition. Seems to group pretty well for me. I HATE the remington "golden bullets". that gold crap flakes off on everything.

CCI standard velocity is very consistent and groups well for me. Federal target is much cheaper though (and groups allmost as well)

Wolf has a unique smell to it...I like it, but Aguila SE subsonic shoots better in all of my 22s. It's good ammo for around $15 a brick.

One of the rags did some testing a while back and Federal value stuff was almost as accurate as the target brands, according to them.

I've always had pretty good luck with the federal bulk packs, although I can't say that for the other "bulk packs" that I've tried. I have had more problems with the winchester "golden bullets" than any ammunition I've ever shot. In some of my older semiautomatic .22's it gives them all kinds of problems. I will say though, that in the last 2 bricks of federal bulk ammo that I've bought, I've had a bit more "duds" than usual that did not fire even though the rim was struck. Either way, if you're gonna buy bulk, I'd advise against the remington.

Strangely enough, the Federal bulk pack from my local Wal Mart are green with oxidation.
Golden bullets shoot just fine. Neither are in the same ball park as Wolf.
