If you buy 5 or more boxes, they will charge you 7.98 per box. Pretty cheap considering there is no state tax.

They had a fairly large supply of the 9mm but I did not see any .40 or .45 caliber ammo on the floor.

Just a heads up for anyone in the area that might be looking for some practice or plinking ammo.
Not to knock your purchase, but I can reload plinking/practice 9mm for around 11¢ per round versus almost 40¢. Something for you to consider.

I still use Federal Premium JHP for carry ammo, just in case I was rockin' out to an old song on the radio while reloading and forgot the powder.

$7.98 per box is about 16¢ per round. I generally buy wolf or blazer for about 12-13¢/rd, so, reloading, really isn't worth my time. Say both you and I shoot 250 rounds in a sitting. I have spent about $5 more than you have. Working for even minimum wage in the state of PA for one hour i'll make $6.50. How long will you spend picking up your brass reloading 250 rounds?

Good points. I was dividing by 20 rds/ box. My mistake.
The brass is recycled, primer is 2 cents, powder about the same, bullet is say 5-7 cents, my time is well spent, I don't work to save money, it's relaxing down time for me. Beats watching TV.

This has to be the best thing I've read today. Very funny and I was thinking the same thing. It's sad that they dictate what ammo you can and cannot use, on top of charging you a fee to use their range.

I would also change the ammo boxes and use whatever ammo you want...providing it's brass cased.

Not trying to keep this one off topic, but i have seen people shoot reloads at Targetmaster, and at one point they did sell WWB in the 50 rnd box. I bought several cases, i think it was 8.50 a box.

That said, I always have some "reputable" ammo around (American Eagle, etc) for exactly these occasions, so when I go there (a friend and newby shooter lives nearby), I have something that passes muster. Sort of like going to a bar with a dress code above your norm.
I have gone there a few times, and I specifically asked them why they ban certain types of ammo.

The answer I got was somewhat reasonable:

they ban all ammo that doesn't use brass casings, since they recycle a lot, and it makes more work to separate non-brass from brass;

I think they may ban some really dirty ammo as well, but as a general rule, they told me that if it uses brass cases, you can shoot it there. Thats not ideal for me, the shooter, but understandable from a business perspective.

Of course, I save my brass cased ammo for when I go to target master, and shoot my steel/alum ammo for the other ranges.

That, I get. Banning WWB and S&B, I don't get.

Angry Re: Cheap 9mm ammo

One of the reasons for the price(s) increase is the personally identifiable ammunition being considered. This seems to mean that any ammunition lot and package will be traceable back to the buyer.
Expensive technology; which is a nice back door way of increasing prices and making the administration happy about gun control measures without having to pass any laws.
