Default Lee 9mm crimp die

How far down do you crimp the case? It looks like Lee recommends 1/2 turn on the die or as needed.

All I do is turn the die in until it touches the shell holder, then try a cartridge.
I want just enough crimp to take the flare off the mouth of the case, and I'll turn it in until this is occomplished, then lock it down.
I never looked to see how far in I turned it after it touched the shell holder, but, it isn't much.
Too much crimp on the 9mm may cause it to try to enter the chamber after the slide slams it forward. This could cause a misfire, or, worse, having it jam in the chamber and you having to drive it out with a wood dowel pushed through the barrel.
Crimp usually won't be overdone unless your using lead bullets anyway. The FMJ bullets are super hard to over-crimp.

No experience with the 9mm, but I use the 45. I run it down until it touches the case and stop there. If there is not a crimp grove in the bullet, it is not required. The rest of the die provides a final clean up of the case and wedges the bullet in. Especially lead bullets. If it has a crimp grove in the bullet I just use 1/4 to 1/3 turn.

If I do not use the crimp die, I have feeding problems. The lip of the bell hanges up on anything it can find.
