Default LOW FLASH 357Mag & 38SPLloadings

JoeWilliams just began a thead about "Speer .357 Magnum 135 grain Short Barrel Gold Dot hollowpoint ammo " where he mentioned that the stuff was supposed to have a low flash. He said he saw flash, in spite of that.

I got to thinking of that, and so not to highjack his thread, I started this one.
Thus, I am asking you reloaders what loads for 357Mag and 38Spl you load that have a small or limited flash for standard velocity/pressure loadings. Or what commercial loadings you have heard of which are touted to be "low flash".

I think it would be interesting to work up a few loads for as minimal flash as possible with regular cannister powders, and see just what they do.

Well yes, maybe I'll be covering ground that has already been plowed and harvested too, but as a gentleman of leisure, it might be a good project to get ready for the "end of summer shootout". Twilight is a good time to be friendly with your 357 magnum.

The "control" load could be a full charge of 2400 behind a 230 gr JHP in the 44 mag. That DOES light up the night sky.

So, what powders do you find give you the least flash for standard laods in 38 and 357?

Thanks, in advance,

(Appropriately enough) "Flash"

Default Re: LOW FLASH 357Mag & 38SPLloadings

I never worried about it too much with my .357 loads but I like to use 700x with the .38spl and noticed a low flash with it. Actually, with the .357, the flash gives it more of the "hand cannon" feeling.
