Re: Anyone Load .38 Super?
I have never loaded the .356 bullets in my Super, as , mine is a converted 9mm Largo, which fired the .355 bullet.
Mine prints great on paper, no matter what bullet weight I load.
The Colt .38 Super was designed for the .356, to my understanding, so, what you may want to do, is load up a few .355 and see what they print like on paper, then do some .356.
I would NEVER fire .357, except lead bullets, and I would probably want to run them through a .356 sizer die first.
I have found my Super to be picky on the lead bullets I use, and I'm sure your Colt probably isn't much different, as Star is designed after Colt.
Truncated lead bullets will not feed properly in My Star, as the case gets caught and doesn't ramp up the feed trough correctly.
The lead round nose does fine.
It's sometimes hard to find a good supply of .356 bullets, so, what I would suggest, is get a Lee or RCBS .356 sizing die, and buy .357 lead bullets for practice,
and size them down to .356.
I use the 125 or 130 grain lead .355 for target shooting, and 147 JHP for defensive, and have found that, with the 4.5 in the light lead practice loads, and the 4.0 in the heavier defensive loads, the point of impact is generally the same with the same point of aim.
You will fall in love with this cartridge, as it will do everything you wish it to do
