Default .45 ACP defense loads...

I recently purchased a Taurus 24/7 Pro .45ACP.

What personal defense loads would you recommend that won't break my wallet? I am concerned about over penetration, etc...

Winchester Ranger Talons or Remington Golden Sabers for .45ACP.

My reloads... if your lawyer can explain you don't reload to inflict pain or faster death than factory ammo...you're just poor and still feel the need to defend yourself.

I'm also a fan of the Rem. Bonded Golden Sabers.

.45 acp is not known for over penetration, esp. with HP's.

Although many people will testify that carrying reloads is fine and dandy, I would highly recommend against it.

Any have any experience with or can recommend the glaser safety rounds for PD? They seem like a good option.

On paper and advertising print, they do look good. However, ballistic tests have shown that the rounds often fail to penetrate deep enough into calibrated gel to be considered reliable for self defense out of a handgun. In rifle claibers against human targtes, this is less of an issue. Pistols just don't get the velocity up enough to push the round more than 5" or 6" into gel, which isn't very deep (12" should be the minimum). The newer crops of safety slugs may be better, but still not enough IMHO.

Overpriced and not as versitile as a JHP. My personal preference is Federal 230 gr Hydra-shocks. I also like RBCD 90Gr TFSP.

I'm not an LEO but I have shot a lot of the SD/LEO ammo out there. Our local club is the facility that they use for LEO training.

I settled on Speer GDHP for my .45. As other have stated the Glasers have penetration issues.

Might I ask why?

I've been reloading for 20+ years and have never had a problem, where as I have have store bought rounds (Remingtons) that had primers missing, more then likely an error of quality control.

Now if you are talking about buying someone elses reloads, then I might have to agree with you, but I would have to think long and hard on that.
