Default M855 SS109 5.56mm ammo?

I'm throwing around the idea of buying a case of Winchester M855 SS109 5.56mm ammo. I realize it's anything but match ammo, but can anyone commment on the accuracy of this type of ammo out of a 1:9 barrel for plinking purpose at around 100 yards?

I'm also considering maybe just keeping it around in case SHTF, is this a good choice for such a purpose?

It works, it's reloadable. M855 are penetrator rounds - so I might not plink with it.

For SHTF - I keep a bunch (ok a lot more than a bunch) of Wolf around. It's cheap, it works.

It is god stuff. Average accuracy. I would not waste SS-109 rounds on plinking. Standard FMJ can handle this.

ill agree with the previous posters, m855 is good stuff i have a good amount of it for a rainy day, i use xm193 for plinking though m855 is more expensive and depending on where its made, steel or tungsten core, your range probably doesnt want you using it.

It's getting a little scarce 24 hours after the election. Either wait a bit until things cool down or buy it where you can now.

I like these guys for good prices and cheap shipping:

Accuracy is average. Just don't shoot steel with it.

M193 fragments more reliably.

Thanks for the info guys, I decided to pick up a 1000-round case while the getting was still good. Half tempted to get a 2nd case now just to be safe...
