Thumbs down Wolf .30 carbine

Bought 2 boxes of wolf .30 carbine...fed like hell and did not want to extract half the time.

Used multiple magazines that wasn't the feed problem.

My Plainfield and my buddies Universal M-1 carbines just don't like this stuff . Shame because it's pretty cheap.

Both rifles work fine on any brass case ammo.

Also tried out a box of Aguila ammo I picked up at the last gunshow..that stuff worked flawless.

So folks before you load up try it first!

If it's the Wolf Gold it should work well. It is made in Serbia by Privi Partisan (sp). I bought the ammo for my Finnish M39 7.62x54R, 7.5 swiss and it functioned well.

That's a shame. In general I think the quality of Wolf ammunition has been steadily increasing but still staying cheap. Also the .30 ammo is one of Wolf's newest calibers perhaps they're still working out some kinks? Is the .30 ammo polymer coated or just straight steel cased?

I like wolf in general also(762x39 and .45) ..haven't tried the gold line yet. this stuff was steel cased and may have been coated. Seeing as I went through 2 different boxes bought at different times and 2 different carbines did NOT like this stuff I'll just steer away from it. I'll give the gold line a try though...expect to see this thread again..

I forgot to add I also popped off a box of Sellier and Bellot .30 carbine, that ammo is clean, accurate and consistant. Shooting at bowling pins at around 50-75 yards.

I've heard that the wolf ammo that has the laquer on it has the problems of jamming and not extracting in alot of rifles. They say that when the laquer gets hot, it gunks up and makes everything get stuck. Have you cleaned your rifle since firing the ammo to see what it looks and feels like? Just like Danp said, I've heard that the polymer coated bullets are much cleaner and still cheap. Hope that helps, and sorry that you're having so many problems with it.

I can't speak for Wolf's .30 Carbine ammo but just read on another forum that Wolf related problems are not usually found if shooting only Wolf ammo.

Problems arise when mixing brass cased ammo after shooting a fair amount of Wolf.

As I read it, the Wolf ammo case does not expand like brass and powder residue blows back. When brass cased ammo is shot, it expands against the powder residue and the case sticks. It has nothing to do with the cartridge's laquer coating

Here's the link. This info was for 5.56 in AR's I don't know if any research was done on other calibers.

Very interesting perspective on steel cased 5.56 ammo.

Actually if you delve into that website further he does do a test on Wolf .30 carbine ammo http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/edu19.htm My experience with Wolf? For commie guns it's good stuff. For American guns reliabiltity is spotty at best. I have American guns that will feed empty cases but will not feed Wolf. As 7.62xIan mentioned Sellier and Bellot .30 carbine ammo is good stuff as is the rest of their ammo. I think ammoman has a decent deal on American Eagle .30 carbine ammo right now.

Old Wolf ammo was laquered and greenish tinted. (steel cased).

Ther new stuff is polymer coated (NOT LAQUERED) and is gray colored (steel cased)

The old Wolf was horrible. The new stuff is just fine, although relatively inaccurate.

Tried the Wolf crap in my Universal, it does not like the hard primer cup of the "milspec ammo". It prefers the Rem. and Win. ammo. I don't rely too much on Wolf ammo. Had too many bad problems with it form my mostly milsurp collection.
