Non-FMJ range ammo
The indoor range where I practice does not allow FMJ ammo. I use a 1911 and a .40 XDM. Any suggestions of practice ammo?

Re: Non-FMJ range ammo
No FMJ is stupid and unreasonable rule. Find a new range. Best to let ranges with stupid rules go out of business.
If you still want to go Cabelas sells Herters ammo with an aluminum case and nylon jacket. I would take my own reloads with cast bullets caked in too much bullet lube so it smokes the place out.Last edited by dkf; October 23rd, 2014 at 07:23 PM.

Re: Non-FMJ range ammo
I thought some ranges were requiring full jackets to reduce lead splatter/dust?

Re: Non-FMJ range ammo
Ranges all over come up with some hair brained rules. I even saw on another site the range complaining because a guy was shooting bullets coated with the Hitek coating and they had a mild plastic smell when shot. Ranges that don't want reloads, steel cased, no cast bullets, no bullets with exposed bases, you have to leave your brass on the floor and etc. Like I said before best to find somewhere else and let the crap ranges fold up.

Re: Non-FMJ range ammo
I belong to a club with an older indoor range. Their rule is NO jacketed bullets and no magnum calibers. Their reasoning is it beats up the back stop too much.
Also it makes recovery and recycling of scrap lead from the traps easier.
Cast/swaged lead is OK as is frangible.
