Default Reloading .40 S&W with Tight Group

I picked up a pound of Win231 real cheap and decided to reload my 40 with it. I'm just now finishing it up and a few friends have recommended Tight Group, but neither reloads 40. Is it a decent powder for 40 or should I be looking at something else? Thanks!

Titegroup is a poor .40 powder IMO. You are better off with Power Pistol, HS-6, Longshot and etc. For hot loads Longshot is one of the best.

Thanks for advice. Any opinions on Accurate No. 7?

It will work and it is a slower more bulky powder. It has a burn rate very close to Longshot. You may not find much load data for it though.

TG is a good light load powder. I use just enuff to cycle the action with cast lead for target.I get about 20-30% more loads per pound with titegrp.

I love Titegroup in 9mm and .380. So of course I tried it in .40 and it was so so.
I had some Universal around and I load my .40 with it. Much better performer IMO.

Titegroup is ok for certain calibers not really a fave. It burns very fast and hot, pressure spikes are easy to get with it. 231 hp38 are great give Winchester wst a try. I used it for about a year or so when roger at kings recommended it for 45acp I found I works well and burns clean in 9mm and 38spl. For .40 I've used titegroup, wst, 231, and hp38 and settled on 231/hp38 they're the same powders. I've heard lots of good things about power pistol but never used it.

I got it at a gun show. I think it was Valley Forge? I can't remember. It was only like 14 or 15 bucks, so I gave it a try. It just burns a little dirtier than I like.

If you are having trouble finding any load data for Win 231, you can use the load data for HP-38 if it is listed. They are the same powder.
