They work great.. but after the first few shots, barrel is hot... the wax round will /could slide out of the shell. They work best with single shot. Keep your barrel level.

Another method for big holes with small shot without the mess of wax:

Search will show previous discussion about it.

I have made many of these:

I would keep the wax from the fontina cheese at work, bring it home and melt it on an electric plate in the garage. You do not need a lot, Using federal 7 1/2 shot will it back up and let it cool. Took a hot knife and leveled out the top and sides, shot it in my H&R single shot. (all 12 gauge)

These is a gentleman on youtube that sells a cutter to make these, it was 20 shipped I think. very neat and be a lot of back yard fun.

Safety perspective: I would not load them in an auto shotgun EVER. No sign of wax buildup that I could tell and we shot about 35 one day with no cleaning, and a full choke.

For pistol plinking I've used these. http://www.gunfighter.com/waxbullets/

They are cheap and don't foul too quickly. I always keep a supply loaded and handy as it's a great way to introduce new people to shooting. Cardboard target tacked to a tree outside the basement door at about 10'. Minimal noise and no recoil.
