I understand not wanting steel core rounds but cases just get swept up.
They sell the brass I assume, and don't want the hassle of sorting through the cases to remove the steel ones. Just a guess, but that could be their reasoning.

The only guns I shoot steel cased ammo in are the Combloc guns like SKS, AK, or Makarov. Well my CZ's do get brass.

No, French Creek does not allow steel cased ammo at their range. It is on signage stating such.

I still wonder why. It easy enough to separate from brass using a magnet
Do you lose all the brass you shoot there? Ie. they get to keep it all?

Era. Looked at their website. It says brass only. No steel or aluminum cases. So no cheap Blazer ammo either.

My only guess would be since it's not brass nobody wants to pick it up and it creates a mess?
Actually steel case is far easier to pick up with one of those magnetic pick-up tool things.

The only issues I have had with steel is they often split in my AR and dont like the standard GI 30rd mags, unless you spray them with WD40 before running them through.

Just a note on TulAmmo. Probably the dirtiest ammo ive ever shot. Shot about 200 rounds of .45 not long ago having some fun with my buddys steel.several duds, couple rounds i noticed had setback out the box and my arms were black as night when done.

Wolf makes a point of saying right on their homepage that they have nothing to do with TulAmmo anymore.

I've had 2 squibs with TulAmmo. Glad I caught it on each occasion.

Wolf however I have not had a problem with at all. Accurate as well, however there is often unburnt powder and more of a mess left behind in the gun.

Brass expands and then contracts as it is fired. Steel expands but doesn't really contract as well so if you have a gun with tight tolerances it can be more a problem.

For long term storage, steel rusts which is why most of these rounds today have a polymer coating on them.

Some say steel is harder on extractors as well. Could be.

I'd look at it like this, if you are looking for shoot em up ammo, especially in cheaper guns like AK's, SKS's and so on and plan on using it up within a year, then I don't think steel is a big deal. If you want to shoot matches, want reliability, have an more expensive gun with tighter tolerances, reload or plan to store it long term brass would be better.

My guess would be twofold; limited manpower and they sell the brass. You are correct by saying it would be fairly easy to separate. But then again, their range, their rules.

I've run Tula through my AR with no issues. Seems like some guns like it, others don't. Also they recommend going from bass to steel and then cleaning the gun before using brass again. I did not have any issues going back an fourth myself, but again, probably a gun to gun thing.

I would run it in other firearms that aren't picky about ammo if I was in a pinch, but I prefer brass.

As far as damaging the gun, I would have no worries about that. I would just clean the gun more often when using steel case.

all i ever shoot out of my ar's and ak's is steel case - have never had any issues at all. i don't use steel in any of my handguns though, have had too many issues ( getting jamed in cylinder of revolvers and failures in auto's ).
