I don't use Red Dot, but it is listed in all my reloading manuals......Go to Alliant Powder Co. web site.......they list recommended load info.

I have used red dot with cast lead bullets.. Smoky/dirty.. it is more of a shotgun powder. But works nice. Don't have my data logs, but I was using it to hit major power factor with 200gn LRN and it was a pretty soft shooting.

I normally use Bullseye for 45, but I had a bunch of red dot, so decided to load that up and give it a try. if it is all you have, give it a try. I loaded a few hundred rounds for a friends 45 and he loved it and felt it was cleaner than some other commercial reloads he was using..
The problem with shooting Chinese bullets is 15 minutes later you wanna shoot again.

I have to check my notebook when I get home. I know that I load 40 with red dot. Can't remember off the top of my head if I've done any 45. I'll check tomorrow when I get home and send you what I have.

I have used Red Dot with cast bullets in 357, 40 S&W, 45ACP, 45LC, and 44Mag, in handgun. I also have cast load for Red Dot in 223, 22-250, 3030, 308, and 3006. Red dot is very versatile with cast bullets and one of the few powders you can still find in stock.

I still have a partial can of Red Dot from when I was a kid reloading shotgun shells. I tried it once for 45acp and choked on the smoke.

Red dot from years back was very Smokey, it burns much cleaner now, new red dot is no more Smokey than Win 231 HP-38 or Unique. Powder gets the rap for Smokey loads. When the bullet lube is more the problem.
