Storing Primers

As of right now, i have all my primers stored safely in a steel lockbox, that is not airtight nor should it be. I'm just wondering how everyone else stores their primer inventory. And how many would you say is too many too keep lying around.

Right now i have approx.
- 10,000 CCI No.34 NATO Large Rifle Primers (Stocked up while i could find em at 70$ per case)
- 2,000 Federal Large Rifle
- 2,000 Federal Large Match Rifle
- 1,200 Federal Small Pistol

In the original packaging, of course, and on a shelf underneath my loading bench. You're a little, 'light' on some of the numbers, though. 5,000 pistol primers (large or small) is about right.

Personally, I'd be more comfortable storing primers in wood or plastic crates; but, that's just me. (You must do a lot of 7.62 x 51mm rifle shooting!)

Hehe, yea i shoot my M1 alot. I'll take a full .30 cal can to the range already loaded into the 8rnd en-bloc clips

I know i need to get some more pistol primers, but i'll wait until i get my XL650 press up and running (need a .40S&W conversion still).

ABC's of Reloading says not to store them in metal containers. Reasoning is that, in a fire, there's likely to be shrapnel.

Sored in a wooden cabinet on the wall opposite my loading bench. Bench is in a controlled environment.
