Default Overall what is the most popular self defense round?

Overall what is the most popular competition and self defense round in the USA/Canada?

Is it the 45acp, is it the 9mm, is it 40 cal. Could it be 38spl, maybe the tried and true 357 magnum. What about the 380?

From what I gather over seas the 380 is pretty popular and the 9mm is proven military round. I eliminated the 38 super because its only popular in competition.

Overall which is the most popular round? We are talking most used not most effective a man stopper. That is another debate.

I'd say 40 cal but with competition events (training/reloading/practice) included maybe its the 45acp?

Most citizens and regular LEO sit on there ammo like eggs once a month range time. If that.

What do you guys think?

Even with IPSC and Steel challenge competition you know those guys shoot nearly 1500 rounds every month of 45aCP OR 38 super. Then with the 45acp you have the private citizen and LEOs of course this is when 9mm and 40cal starts to gain ground.

When I'm sweeping up brass at the gun range its mostly 40 cal and 9mm some 45acp and very little 38/357.

9mm would be a non debate world wide but here in the states I wonder, its still a good choice.

We are talking about fired and used not horded.

The most common rounds sold are .38Spl, then 9MM, then .40S&W. This has nothing to do with self defense or carry, just what center fire ammo is sold the most. There are a lot of older .38/.357 out there and people still shoot them.

Very few 38/357s fling their brass all over the place. Most folks eject them into their hand and either save them for reloading or toss them in the trash/range scrap bucket.

Even with all the Steel matches & IPSC training and before the match fine tuning you think that the 38spl is shot the most? usually how many times do you go to the range 4 times a month maybe two times a month.

Competitors are 2-3 times a week reloading and tweeting loads and techniques in an effort to win the next meet. Between meets they are said to shoot 1500 rounds a month x 6 to 12 months a year. Its hard to imagine 100 rounds of 38spl fired every two weeks or a month comparing to that. Usually done with 45acp and 38 super. For debate sake.
