Steve,
A handgun must be shipped to an FFL as paperwork is required.

Thanks for your reply. I doubt I will want to pursue gunrunners services given his "helpful" reply. Let me try this again... What other places of business can process a FFL transfer other than a gun shop? Can Gander Mt do this? Do local gun shops do this willingly since you obviously did not purchase the firearm from them? |

If you need to know the process of what needs to happen I have a page on my website called "How this works". It explains the process from the time you win your bid or buy your gun till the time you pick it up here. I hope you find it more helpful. You can follow the link in my sig line to get to my web site. I believe Dan also posted it in his reply to you. Thanks to danp, THC & pitt45GAP for the kind words!

in my experience, gun shops aren't too keen on doing transfers for guns bought from other people...or, if they do, they charge wayyyyy too much (like $50 or more). they want to sell you a gun off their racks instead. but, there are some gun shops who do do transfers at a reasonable cost. gander mountain has an FFL since they sell guns, but i'm not sure if they will do transfers for guns not bought from them...i would think prolly not, but you could ask them. not sure what problem you had with gunrunners reply (he was just telling you that you have to have it shipped to an FFL holder which is exactly correct), but he is about the best guy to deal with there is. he'll charge you a very reasonable fee and provide great service. |

After re-reading my original question, I believe I didn't state my question clear enough. I was simply asking where else, other than a local gun shop, can I get a handgun transfer processed. I already knew that paperwork needed to be completed by a FFL holder, but don't know who else has the FFLs.
My bad, and I apologize. Two local gun shops seem to want to charge way too much for their guns (eg. one quoted me 1100 for a Kimber Stainless Pro Carry II .40 S&W that is listed on budsgunshop.com for 769, and the other wanted to charge me 530, plus taxes and additional fees for a SA XD9SC), especially when comparing to net prices and most likely wouldn't look too favorably on someone coming in to have a FFL processed when that person didn't buy the firearm from their business in the first place. So, I was looking for another way to get the FFL processed from an internet sale other than the gun shops and not piss someone off at the gun shop. I don't mind small businesses marking products up for profit, but gouging is another thing entirely. I just want to find the best price, and the net purchase seems to be the way to go. |
