In Pennsylvania---you may NOT carry a sidearm in any State Park or National Park. Irregardless of having a carry permit. Even local cops can not carry . Then, use common sense---No hospitals or nursing homes-- no schools or school zones or airports, ... Transit systems-- check with Transit Police first. First Class cities-- check with City authorities.
If unsure--just leave the gun at home..

thanks for the info. My wife is getting the XD in 9mm. I will be getting it on 40 S&W. The court house gave me papers of the rules but I can't find them. The info was also 4 years old so the stuff may have been updated too. thanks.

I have the XD9 Sub compact and it's a great gun.

I am curious as to why you would suggest not carrying at the hospital or nursing home?

Can't carry on the Battlefield in Gettysburg.

School Property carry has been debated since the law reads "other lawful purpose" but no body wants to be the test case.

I've heard debate on the Post office too.

Colleges are Private property so carrying there is only tresspassing if you refuse to leave. Same as any store that is posted "no guns"

With a permit, you can most certainly carry in Cities of the First Class. Which means Philly, since that's the only First class city we have in PA.

The only difference in Philly, is you cannot Open carry there without a Permit. Other than that Philly is no different. Although I hear it's harder to get a permit there since the Chief of Police issues it instead of the Sherrif.

I followed the link and looked on this site but could not find a list of where you can't carry. I know about the schools but I thought you could carry in a state park? Could you please direct me to where it says that?

Carrying in state parks is a violation of their "regulation", not a violation of PA law.

Unsecured areas of the Airports are okay as I understand it.

There is no law against carrying in hospitals (I carry when I go to the dentist, doctor or hospital).

School zones: The prohibition on carrying in a school zones does stipulate that is does not apply to someone engaging in an approved school activity with approval of having the firearm or any other lawful purpose.

Signs on private businesses have no legal weight in this state, so carry away. If they find out you have a firearm, they do have the right to ask you to leave, if you refuse, you're trespassing, so keep it hidden.

Off-limits:
1. Court Facilities
2. Casinos
3. Certain Department of State Premises
4. Any Place Off-limits By Federal Law.

State parks do have a regulation, not a law, but you can be charged with a summary offense according to their regs.

Not to be offensive, but I think you should re-read the laws pertaining to the carrying of firearms in Pennsylvania. I believe the only thing correct in your response was the info regarding State and National Parks. Airports are fine assuming you don't try to get through the metal detectors while carrying.

Also, to the OP, DO NOT check with Transit Police or City authorities about carrying a firearm. They will dribble stupid out of their faceholes. At most, Ithink it might be illegal to carry while on an Amtrak train, but not on Septa.

State Parks might earn you a summary offense, which may win you a fine and, potentially, a few days in the hole.
However, if you carry well concealed, you shouldn't have a problem.
