Default Re: Another annoying hypothetical

Don't get me wrong, I love the AK. There is no better choice for a SHTF type weapon, period end of story.

But the phrase "High End AK" is an oxymoron of the highest order.

Sure, you can get one with a milled receiver, but all that does is give you a substantially heavier gun with parts compatibility issues.

You know those "high end" Bulgarian AK's that often sell for $700+ in the semi-auto/civilian market? They're the same weapons (except that they're full-auto) we armed the Iraqi security forces with for about $65 each.

Some AK's are better than others, but the price is not necessarily indicative of quality--and it usually is more related to fit and finish--not accuracy, reliability, or overall performance.

Here's an idea. You thought about the Glock & WASR option, how about your Glock and a Romanian Draco pistol? The Draco's are romanian SBR AK's with the original side folding stocks removed. They're going for less than WASR's right now and would give you something a little different to play with.
