I just prefer longer shots and I'd rather use a 243 or 308 for whitetail...versus being limited with ammo and range with a shotgun.
ETA: I just started hunting 3 years ago, so I'm still enjoying getting out into the woods. I will mostly be archery hunting this season, as my hunting time will be limited.
