Only because the Soviets severely overspent on their military between 1945-1980s and financially fell under the weight of their own armor, not because it's cheap junk. So, when the supply dries up, the prices will rise to reflect their real value. Guys that have closets full of them will reap profits selling after importation ends.

The same scenario happened with German small arms at the end of W.W.II.
