I would slightly disagree with the above statement. It seems to me that people who have peacefully lived in this country for a long time (e.g., at least 12 years, or maybe even 20) should have a high presumption of innocence even if they lack documentation, making the government's job of proving their illegal status basically impossible. On that note, it might make sense to bar prosecution of individuals who can prove they have peacefully lived here for said length of time. Just like statutes of limitations and adverse possession in common law.

As for recent or violent illegal aliens: boot them back to their home country. And increase border security so that more don't illegally come through.
