Use plastic electricians tape, anything else will soak up water. You could put a small piece of paper soaked in oil or bipolar rust inhibitor on the metal, sort of like a Band-Aid. Don’t use much oil, the tape won’t stick to it. The tape will stick to itself so use two wraps. Sometimes you do what is required to get by, just so it’s safe.
